Mars one of the deadliest planet known to mankind but how is so dangerous? Information Report 21/05/15
Description
In Week 5 of Term 2 our class focussed on how to write great information reports.
We wrote about the planet Mars as we are in the middle of learning about Planet Earth and Beyond. Learning how to write a geat information report will help us with our self-guided topics in a few weeks time.
Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.
Mars one of the deadliest planets known to mankind but how is so dangerous?
Introduction
Mars a big Martian red planet that is the 4th planet of our solar system. This planet is one of the deadliest planets in the solar system but there could be life or any resources where life can be stored but how can life be stored with the horrible natural disasters of Mars and if you wanted to know some key information about Mars then this is the place for you (By the way Mars is named after the Roman God Of War).
The Appearance of Mars
Mars is a red planet that is really frosty and cold. People thought Mars is a boiling hot planet because of the colour but actually Mars is cold we're just deceiving the planet is boiling hot because of the color. Mars has drylands, canyons and mountains these surface disabilities we're caused by huge hot meteorites and asteroids coming down like the hadouken from Ryu. Thats how Mars has a very horrible appearance and surface so if you would have the chance to travel to Mars be careful.
Natural disasters of Mars
Mars has natural disasters which means that this planet is really dangerous. A sandstorm is a storm that can be caused on Mars and can last up to months so that means those sandstorms might rage for months so imagine living on a planet with never ending sandstorms (but sandstorms aren't the only danger). Their are also volcano(Mars has one of the most hugest volcanoes of the solar system) that can erupt and it could destroy lands and mountains on Mars. Mars is uninhabitable planet without warmth, Earth has a magnetic field but Mars doesn't which means Mars isn't protected from the radiation flowing like wind from the sun which is really bad. So that means danger is close and these dangers can kill you if you are face to face with them.
The Orbit of Mars
Even though Mars is our closest neighbour, its orbit is very different. A Martian day (or how long it takes to rotate once on its axis) is longer than an Earth day and equals 24 hours and 37 minutes. This is because it spins slower than our planet. Moreover, a year on Mars is the same as 687 Earth days! Imagine if you lived on Mars, you would be almost half the age you were on Earth!
(Shared writing with teacher and group 19/05/15)
So that concludes one thing mars is a deadly planet and has no sign of life living on the planet and that's why mars is one of the planets you don’t want to live on and if you want more information about mars for you information report heres a website: http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/planets/mars.html

Explantion: How To Survive your first night Minecraft
In Week 6 of Term 1 our class focussed on how to write great explanations. We wrote about how to survive your first night in Minecraft (the game a lot of us are obsessed with!).
Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.
Now when the sun is set you can finally sleep in your cozy bed and thats how to survive your first night minecraft. Once you practice surviving the night and you'll become a pro. Also once it morning you smell and hear zombies and mobs burning and you can smell the rotten flesh. BUT BE CAREFUL OF CREEPERS!!!
Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.
Have you ever wondered how to play minecraft? If you have you then I’m going to write about. Minecraft is popular game around the world. Its made by a swedish programmer named Notch.
Always, when you spawn in the world of minecraft you have to start mining wood with your hand. Once you've mined your wood (Must be 8 blocks or you can just use the first 4 wood blocks) use your little crafting system and create some planks. Next make some crafting tools (pickaxes swords, shovels and hoes). Harvest more wood to make a little shack once you have some tools. Then when you have lots of wood start thinking about where you are going to make your shack.
Often people start thinking we're their going to set their home so thats what you are going to do. you are going to start thinking we're you going to make your house. You can make your house in the Jungle, Caves, Mountains, Swamps, Snow forest and forest. I would prefer to live in a Jungle. But besides its your choice. But live in a place where you can see your surroundings. Make sure to gather food and resources and get some coal to make torches (mobs can spawn in your house if its dark). If a village is near you could live in the villagers house. Make sure to make a chest so your food can fit in your shack. Make sure to smelt your food (Make sure to create a furnace if you have time).
Eventually, you would have found a place start building your house but wait make sure you get a sleeping station aka (bed). Make sure to gather some food from the animals around you and resources (you could have a companion to help you). Also you have a roof because those murderous spiders will climb up on your house and sneak attack you like whcha! Your house has to be 3 blocks high and the sides have to be equal to your roof. If you have time get some cobble stone (so you can upgrade weapons and make a furnace).

Coconut Ice For Community Day
Here is the coconut ice that we are making
for community day on Wednesday. Every
class is cooking a meal for community day.
LOOK HOW YUM IT IS!
Please come back to check what I'm up to.
Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
100g butter
1 cup milk
6 cups Chelsea Icing Sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup desiccated coconut
2 tsp coconut essence
Method
Place the butter, milk, Icing Sugar and salt in a large- sized saucepan and heat gently until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to the boil and keep the heat sufficient to just maintain the boil, stirring only occasionally, until the mixture reaches soft-ball stage (120°C). Be careful that the mixture doesn't spit and burn you!
Add the coconut and coconut essence and remove from the heat. Cool for 5-10 minutes, then beat until the mixture thickens. Pour into a greased tin approximately 20x20cm. Allow to cool and cut into squares.
Note: For pink coconut ice add a drop of red food colouring with the coconut. For the traditional two-tone effect make a batch of white and then a batch of pink, pouring the pink on top of the set white.
